Manga Review: Interracial Romance/Love

By Adila Apsara - 03:56

Ahhh..... Just a day away from departing to Europe to study and right in this moment I was sitting with my laptop beside a window. Enjoying the morning sun of this tropical country that I have been taking for granted. Anyway I'm here to review some of interracial romance based mangas that I have read throughout this year. It's a really rare type of manga, really. It was such a challenge to find the best ones out of them. But I ended up reading a few and they were pretty good!

*whispers* there are many hentai interracial mangas but I dare not to read. I have my limit to "Smut" and "Mature." Also, I could only find the interracial romance manga between a caucasian and asian. It was a bit of a bummer to me because I am... *confess* a big fan of AMBW (asian man black woman) because dammmnnn couples like that are just so attractive. I can't.

Sowieso, sollen wir jetzt anfangen? Ja!

1. Private Prince by Enjouji Maki

Main Couple: Wilfred Enrique Estol & Miyako Sakuragawa

Summary from Mangafox: His highness the prince of Estolia Wilfred became an exchange student in Eito University. His noble appearance and gentleman’s manners quickly filled the campus with hysterical women’s voices. Miyako also studies at that university and for her master’s thesis, she is determined to interview the prince about his great-grandmother. But when she approaches him about it, she suddenly discovers “the dark side” of his character...?!

My Ratings for This Manga: 7/10

My View on This Manga: One word = A-M-U-S-I-N-G! Seriously I never really had such a good time reading a manga in a long time. The smut parts are still tolerable for me too. The plot is readable but I'm okay with that because Miyako and Will never fail to make me swoon. They're just really sweet, but also confusing at times. If you are 18+ I would recommend you to read this. Especially if you're a fan of fluffy fluffy things, you wouldn't regret!

2. Eikaiwa School Wars by Matsumoto Tomo

Main Couple: Ish Guillem Kilroy & Kiku Arisugawa

Summary from Mangafox: Arisugawa Kiku (aka Arisu) is a Japanese high-school girl who gets really nervous around foreigners. Arisu's father is getting transferred to New York for his job, so her mother pressures her to sign up for conversational English lessons. Arisu reluctantly goes to class only to discover that she's already met Ish, one of her new instructors! The two had fought over the last can of mackerel at the 100 yen shop the day before. Despite being a rude and sarcastic guy, Ish is actually very popular... Why is it that guys with glasses are just so SEXY?!

My Ratings for This Manga: 8/10

My View on This Manga: *inhales sharply*  I don't know the right way to describe this but I really love this manga. Despite the fact that it's a bit confusing to differentiate the speech because Ish talks in English all the time and Arisu (Kiku) still talks in Japanese. Ish often says sweet words to Kiku (maybe knowing that she would not understand him anyway) but she couldn't understand him and always think of him as an arrogant and cold guy. This one is my favorite quote from Ish to Kiku:

"I wish I could have been abroad with you."

3. Home by Ueda Rinko

FINALLY A REVERSE! This time it's the male who's Asian x)

Main Couple: Kojirou & Maria (forgot their last names heh)

Summary from Mangafox: A historical shoujo about Spain and Japan. Maria lives a quiet peaceful life in Spain except for the constant affections of Antonio, but fate changes when Maria trips onto Koujirou, a samurai.

My Ratings for This Manga: 8/10

My View on This Manga: Awesome! I'm not a big fan of historical things but this one really gets me! The plot is a bit unpredictable and full of surprises. Some parts are still confusing like how suddenly they could talk to each other without language barrier. But the rest of the story is flawless. 8/10 would read!

4. 100% Perfect Girl by Wann

Now we're back to caucasian male x asian female again x)

Main Couple: Jarte Max Idaregarte & Jay Jin

Summary from Mangahere: Jay Jin is the headstrong teenage rebel, determined to prove she's serious about making art. J. Max is the tall debonair foreigner, in Korea on business, with more--much more--to his background than he lets on.

My Ratings for This Manga (Manhwa, actually): 5.5/10

My View on This Manga: Gut-wrenching. No kidding. This manga is a suspense and worse, reminds me so vividly of another manhwa called "Flowers of Evil." This manga has 'Psychology' as one of it's genres but I didn't know that it could disturb me so much. The good thing is that the image of  sexy brunette caucasian man (Jarte) and a cute Korean girl (Jay) is so perfect and I'm dying to see such couple in real life. With less problems as Jarte and Jay, of course. There were also too much dramas. I ended up dropping it at chapter 30-ish or so. For your info, it ends on Chapter 82. I feel so guilty but I did check the ending and was satisfied though.

5. Red River/Anatolia Story by Shinohara Chie

Main Couple: Kail & Yuuri (I think I have problems remembering the last names of historical interracial couples)

Summary from Mangafox: Yuri lived the peaceful, average teenage life until Queen Nakia drew Yuri across time and space into the ancient Hittite Empire to use her as a sacrifice! Yuri meets many different friends throughout her journey to find a way home, but when the season of the North Star comes, enabling Prince Kail to send Yuri home, can she make it back, or have her growing feelings for Kail become too much?

My Ratings for This Manga: 6.5/10

My View on This Manga: Definitely mature. 18+ and just like ASOIAF books but this one's illustrated. I did enjoy reading this but mostly flinched when some intense scenes come. Many dramas too and it is divided into 28 volumes (VOLUMES, brah. not chapters). Also, I'd like to assume that Kail is caucasian because it doesn't really get exposed from what race he is from. The art reminds me of Candy Candy from my childhood. And the drama stays similar too x) I'm now on volume 17 and is unable to find out if I just read it away or skip to the ending.
