International Student Day 2016 at University of Bielefeld

By Adila Apsara - 09:15

In spite of how messy my life had been, (that I didn't even have the time to blog about me going home for about 25 days on the end of February until March) I am now refraining to post another "Late Night Thoughts 4" that will be filled with my cries of how life is unfair and instead, posting about some colorful events that I had attended (or will be attending)

And this time, it's about the International Student Day at my University, Universität Bielefeld, at the 18th of May.

The university itself has thousands of international students and we had the chance to present our culture on that day. It was like a small exhibition with different countries representing themselves. The following countries participated at the exhibition:
- China
- Pakistan
- India
- Indonesia
- Turkey
- Armenia
- Iran
- Peru
- Ecuador
- Singapore
- Korea

I wish I hadn't missed any! So the exhibition took place in the main hall of the university and looked like this:

The Indonesians had a booth on the middle and stood between Armenia and Ecuador. There are about 10 until 12 indonesian students at this university (including me) and about 90% of us participated to either perform a dance, cook the traditional food for the exhibition, making posters and decorations, and answering questions of the people who had interests.

Pretty much sums up how our booth looked like. We also presented "Dadar Gulung," an indonesian rolled pancake filled with coconuts and red sugar for free. And a "Tumpeng" for the people to see.

Some more snapshots of our people..

Had to take picture with our MVP, the one who had the idea for the tumpeng and dadar gulung, and she cooked them too.

Naya is so cute, I had to post her photos twice (and could be more if necessary)

And not to forget some interested people..

The booths of the other countries were amazing as well though I didn't take so many photos.
But in the korean booth, we were allowed to try out the "Hanbok" or the traditional korean dress!

Amazingly cute, and I couldn't thank enough the girl who took my camera and took some amazing shots of me and my friend in this dress. Not to mention she also did a candid of me trying to take the hanbok off. This is by far the most raw photo I have ever seen of myself..

We also did a performance of saman dance. I don't have them in my camera because I was one of the dancers. But we kinda looked like this..

The red and yellow are the dancers. This photo is unedited.

Some more postcards..

At the end of the event we cut out the tumpeng and ate them together. And since it was big, the other people who passed by could also get a small portion and enjoy the deliciousness as well.
