Olympus AF-10 35mm (Camera Review)
Hey there! So I was inspired by a friend of mine to buy an analog, old-fashioned camera that still uses roll films. I know it sounds crazy to do that in this time where everything is already digital and effective and you can actually take unlimited photos with your camera phone.
But the hashtag #filmisnotdead in Instagram and Flickr also helped me to build my curiosity with this kind of camera. Sure I was old enough to say that my childhood pictures were taken with these cameras.. but even that I thought I haven't had the chance to explore film cameras with my own hands.
So about 2 months ago I was in the weekly flea market of my university and found the camera that caught my eye. The seller wanted to sell it for 8€ and I asked him if it could be 5€ instead. But in the end, I took it for 7€. I then immediately headed to the nearby store to buy batteries and 3 rolls of films at once (because it's cheaper that way). After that, I went home with these treasures.
Like a curious child I tried to do anything that would make sense. My efforts including inserting the batteries the wrong way and ended up surprised when I turned it around and jolted when the camera made some noises. I also struggled for like 3 days to insert the film because I haven't stretched it. I even dreamt of the camera finally works and guess what? It did work on the next day when I tried to put the film roll again.. and this time, correctly.
I also happened to find a manual for the camera (Olympus AF-10) in internet. Whoever uploaded that is a saint!
Last week I got the film developed by Rossmann, a popular drogerie here in Germany, and got the results today. All my fears about the camera not actually working, the pictures are burnt, or such things were directly washed away when I see the photos. I'm in love!
Some of my favorite shots:
I just really, really love the colors. Who would need to edit these with filters when the colors are already this pretty?? And I guess this will always be the thing that makes a difference between analog and digital camera, isn't it? One weakness though, this camera is unable to catch motions so the object has to be standing still and the camera shouldn't be shaking. But other than that I would be very happy to take more photos with this camera. Especially photos of people.
Until then!
